engine problems

i have been thinking of replacing my 460 with a 351 or 302 with the aod trans behind it what do you think?

Buy another truck, it's not worth the work to make everything fit. Someone who tows trailers will want the 460.

Ahh, but doesn't the 351M have the same bolt pattern as the 460? Not that the M is thought to be one of the most desirable engines, but he didn't specify which 351.

Actually, I was considering going the other way, 351M to 460, on my Dad's truck. It already gets 10 MPG towing, or 10 on the highway, or 10 if treat it nicely. And, everyone says you can get 10 coasting with a 460, so why not?

Yes, the 460 is a 335-Series engine and shares the same bell housing pattern as the 351M & 400 (as well as a few other things):

He said AOD. No AOD tranny was made with a 351m/460 bell pattern.
