Ok, this is rediculous. Half the problems on this site are about litghting malfunctions. Dose any one know if ford is in any way lyable for any repairs envolving the lighting system. My problems are exactly like everyone elses
Problem: Dome light wont shut off even when car is off and key is out, Break lights don't work (checked every thing), reverse lights on top the cab wont shut off even when car is off and key is out. Please help!!!!!
Your problem doesn't sound like the usual "door switch" problem. The light on the top of the cab isn't reverse lights, but a cargo light. On my '95, the interior and cargo lights will light when the dimmer switch is rolled all the way up. If both your interior and cargo lights are on, then I would check the dimmer switch and wiring first, especially if the "key-in" chime is not sounding, or the "door ajar" light is not on.
Can't help you with the brake lights. Check fuses, wiring, and the brake light switch. Other than that - - - Good luck!
Ford,,,, I spoke to a rep at ford he claims hes never heard of this problem. Just wondering if theres anyone out there that works for ford or is a certified ford tec. whos heard of this happening to other ford trucks..Anyway I took out a fuse, which truned off the dome light and the cargo light, but it also turned off the stereo and alarm/remote keyless entry. I also noticed today that my cell phone was causing feedback on my aftermarket stereo. Is there a relay that is related to any of those things? I don't have much money and am trying not to buy things if I don't have to. Ford wants 75 bucks to diagnos each seperat problem. Calling all electrical enginers...Please help....
I recently had some similiar electrical problems. No Brake lights, no 4-way flashers, no horn. Everything else worked fine. All fuses and relays were fine. Turned out to be the turn signal switch. Power for all those items runs through that one switch. I would have never figured that one out. At first they were thinking it was the headlight switch cause they had seen that cause some problems like that.
OK, I changed the brake switch and the brake lights came back on. so I guess the brake light problem is a seperate problem form the Dome light and cargo light prob. I'm asuming theres a relay, but would hate to have to spend 17 bucks on a book to tell me were it is. Dose anyone know were its located, and its not under the hood by the alternator, I checked already. courtisy lights I think there called???? anyway weres the relay.
Well a friend had the same problem and finnaly after about a year he gave up and traded it for a chevy, sorry he was lost too. the only thing he didnt change was the turn signal, whick in my 72 f-150 caused simalr problems!
Read some other posts on this forum and found spraying the door latch with WD-40 fixed the problem. Don't ask how it worked but it work. Definately will never by a ford again. Fix Or Repair Daily...Found On Road Dead...must I go on
OK, so a busted door switch means that Ford trucks are junk? I'd rather have an annoying light on the dash than have the transmission fall out (like my last GM truck did) or the fuel pump die and leave me stranded (like my last GM truck did).
I can live with the small problems. Overall, Ford still makes a much better truck than the competition.
I had that same problem with mine, and for about last 4 years, just kept the fuse out of the box so i didnt have light on continously. After reading this forum the other day, saw what other people with same problem did to fix theirs, i went out today and bought me a can of wd-40, and sprayed latch, and guess what, it works fine now. wish i had been able to find this forum years ago LOL
chevys are ok, my dad has one, but i seen more newer model chevys broke down on the side of the road than i have seen fords, (mine hasnt broke down yet, knock on wood)
was driving from louisiana one day in and saw a chevy stuck in mud (a 4 X 4 by the way) and what did i see pulling it out? a Ford F-150 of course. wish i had my camera cause i worked with a guy once who swore chevies are the best truck made. would have loved to see his face after seeing that pic hehe
