Banks intake without the cover...Good idea?

I'm considering running my 08 F250 without the lid on the Banks intake. What concerns should I consider?

I would not do this. While the filter goes on and is clamped I would not want all that extra dirt and the hot air from the motor.

I wouldn't worry about hot air under the hood, that's only a problem when the truck's sitting still in traffic, etc. The second you get underway it rapidly dissipates...

The filter is going to get dirtier faster, which isn't a big deal as long as you're on top of your maintenance. You may get a little more intake/turbo noise, which may/may not be more desirable.

I leave the lid off of my S&B intake kit. You will notice a little louder turbo whistle, but as previously mentioned, it will get dirtier much quicker.

Thanks!! I had those same thoughts about the extra dirt and heat, but I kinda believe that the amount of "extra" dirt won't be that much more. When I had my factory unit and took it out to inspect it, it had all kinds of bugs and dragon flies that made it in there from the fender. Havng said that, I think I'll try it out tomorrow!!

I think AFE has an open filter housing, right?
