While I was changing the plugs on my 1993 302 Bronco, I also broke both the red and black tubes leading into a coffee can looking thing on the passenger side. I am guessing that it is some sort of emmissions piece, and I want to know where I can get replacement tubing, and if there is anything that may hurt my engine if I run with these peices broken.
That's a vacuum reserve and you will have a small vacuum leak if you don't at least plug the tubes. Ford doesn't sell any replacement vacuum tubes, so you'll have to piece it together. I got the plastic tubing from NAPA (you'll probably have to ask for it). I'm lucky enough to know the owner of a NAPA store, and he knew what to get. It comes in 3 ft. lengths, so you'll need to buy some rubber hosing with an inside diameter just a tad smaller than the plastic tube in order to make joints. Just shove the plastic tubing into a short piece of the rubber hose (1.5" or so) and make sure it's tight so you don't get leaks. And this new tubing should slide right into your existing rubber fittings going to the can. I can try to get a NAPA part number when I get home from school, but I don't know if I'll be able to get it or not. Hope this helps.
Just use a pair of needle (and I mean NEEDLE) nose pliers to pull the old ends out of the rubber connector. Then stuff the tubes back in, maybe using a little dab of PVC cement or E6000.
Haha, wow, I didn't even consider the tubes breaking off at the connector. That's good info. I just jumped to the conclusion that they snapped in the middle as mine did. If they broke off right at the connector, by all means, don't go out and buy anything that you don't have to.
ive had those darned plastic vacuum lines break on me before as well. the best bet ive done to repair them is shrink wrap tubing. get the smallest gauge they sell, and just cut a piece about two inches and place over the break. heat it up, and it shall shrink to size. i love that stuff.
