I'm having a problem starting my truck, its a 85 ford f250 6.9 liter diesel, but once I get it start she runs prefect. I can go out in the morning and start it she runs for about three seconds and cuts off, then I have to go under the hood and loosen the fuel line and crank it until she fires up then she stays running I'm pretty much bleeding it to start. I have checked for leaks in the fuel lines there is none , I put a new fuel pump on, new lines, and she is still doing it. The ford dealer tells me its a oil pressure sensor but I dont understand how it could be that when I have to bleed the fuel for it to start. PLEASE HELP! Also I'm having a problem with the temperature getting high then going back down. Any suggestions and this would be helpful also.
I would bet return lines also, gauge going up and down could be faulty thermostat or also a short in the gauge, my 91 did that until i traced it to a bad wire behind the cluster
I'll second the return lines/caps as your likely starting problem. The o-rings get brittle over time and the slightest bump and you've got an air leak.
The starting problem is return lines leaking. You will need to look for an injector install kit. The temp gauge could be caused by the relay in the dash sticking, does it go back down when you rap on the dash? otherwise it could have the wrong thermostat in it. It should have Motorcraft or Navistar ONLY all "replacement" stats from autoparts stores can cause overheating
There are several areas for fuel drain off........
Bad return lines/caps (are they grey painted)
Air leak on the fuel filter or any line connection.........
We need some info re the truck year engine etc....... please put up a signature since we mix years and engines here..........on one page.
is the fuel line water seperator on the firewall still hooked up? if it is, that is most likely your problem. it is not needed. get a piece of fuel line and eliminate it.
oh, and by the way, these trucks do not have low oil pressure shut off switches.
that dealer is full of bullshavick, and just trying to make money off of you for parts you don't need or even have on your truck.
there you go....as for your problem moneypit...i would go x2 on the fuel/water seperator being not needed. Also if you havent done a return line kit, follow one of the two links i am posting.
