alt. problem?

Woke up this morning to a no start. Just clicking so I put my charger on the batteries. After 2 hrs I took the batts to parts store to have them checked. Both only had 60 % charge so they charged them up and they tested fine. Got home the truck crunk up going down the road about 20 miles later I lost radio, all gauges, turn signals, windowa wouldn't even roll down.
I didn't know a diesel would keep running after it lost power.
Whew I hope somebody has an idea.

Whenever I bought my truck (f250 5.4) I had the same problem with the gauges shutting off and all, but not the white smoke, but just found out it was a bad alternator and had to buy a new one, problem fixed

I didn't have whitesmoke either. Its a trip. Ove never owned a vehicle that would keep running w/ a bad alt. And the batts drained.

Oh, for some reason I thought you said you white smoked, but yeah, try a new alternator, it worked perfect for me, and diesels run 2 battery's so that might be why it stayed running
