Clicking noise after using 4WD
Clicking noise after using 4WD
Yesterday i used the 4WD on my 1995 Ford F-350 7.3 powerstroke 5-speed diesel, right after i took it out of 4WD i heard a strange clicking noise, when in gear and when it just sits there and idles. but when i drive it gets louder and worse. Anyone know what this could be?
Strange sounds usually = $...
Noisy in gear, clutch pedal depressed? noisy in neutral clutch in or out? Throw out bearing? Clutch fork/fingers? Manual or auto hubs? More info, please. While not a great idea to get under truck while running (at least not without help and/or properly securing it), listening from below may give some idea of the precise area from which the sound is emanating. It might also be as simple as a stick or woody-stalked weed jammed in somewhere.

While its sitting there idling in neutral, when I push the clutch in and also when in gear it makes the noise. It has manual locking hubs. While its in neutral if I put my hand on the 4WD stick I can feel the clicking noise. So my guess is that its coming from the transfer case. Could low fluid in the transfer case cause this? It almost seems like it never fully disengaged out of 4WD.
If it still makes the noise with the clutch pedal depressed and a gear selected then it is nothing in the transmission, transfer case or 4x4 system.
Could be a throwout bearing, clutch pressure plate or dual mass flywheel. Could also be a loose dust shield or loose starter motor.
