Hello all, I'm not new to working on cars but I am new to Ford trucks and could use a little advice. Looking at a 2000 F350 5.4L that has motor problems. Trying to figure out if rebuilding the 5.4 or replacing it would be best. only going to use the truck as a work truck/tow pig. biggest thing im planning to haul is a camper and a car trailer to tow my jeep. Any input would be appreciated.

All that I know for sure is that the previous owners put a crate motor in two years ago and drove it for those two years without ever changing the oil. motor locked up. im in iraq right now so i cant tear it apart to see if the block itself is damaged or to what extent. just trying to figure out what the cheapest/best option would be.

Thanks for your service!
all depends on how many miles were put on in those 2 yrs?
until you can get around it & kick the tires, it really tough to determine the best route to go. (as you already know I'm sure).
the only suggestion that I could have, is to have one from a salvage yard that is running and ready to go...in case the one that currently resides isn't fixable...or if funds $$ aren't the issue get another crate engine....
do you know where the former owner got the crate engine...maybe talk with them.
are you trying to get this ready before you get back...or work on this after you do get back?? If before... take it , or get it, to a trusted mechanic and let them look it over to at least access the over all unit.
