Is my Turbo functioning appropriately?

I recently posted on having issues on Hauling and losing power at about 60mph on soft inclines. Only hauling approx 6000lbs with 2005 6.0L turbo diesel. In discussions, some have suggested that the turbo is going out on my truck. How should it behave. It never goes over 20 psi on the gauge when I floor the gas whether I am hauling or not. How should my turbo behave under hauling driving conditions?

My 2005 6.0l boost goes to around mid 30's. So I would say you either have a turbo issue or incorrect gauge.

It should definitely go above 20 psi. You will usually see maximum boost with a heavy load (or steep grade) when the transmission downshifts to 3rd or 4th gear. My truck won't boost maximum when in OD. The RPMs need to be a little higher to utilize all the boost.

If you see mid 30's, you have an issue and it could easily blow your head gaskets. Are you running a stock tune? The boost gauge redlines at 35 psi, and stock trucks are detuned so that it won't even go that high.

Generally it is acceptable for maximum boost to be between 25 and 29 psi.

I am running a stock tune. I never go above 20 psi and my truck was losing power and mild grades. Getting stuck at 2500rpms and never getting to that 2700-3000 rpms that it needed to catch the next gear. Thank for your input

I think you should get it checked out. Doesn't sound right. It could be as simple as a leak in the charge boots, or a EBP sensor, or on the expensive end it could be a dirty turbo. Unfortunately that last one is the most likely. But it doesn't pay to go off guessing.

Yes Hypertech tuner on middle setting. Head Gaskets already replaced once, but that was before I had the tuner.

I went through something similar with my truck and it ended up that I had a few codes and a blown FICM fuze under the hood and the truck was running in limp mode.
I'm not saying that this is an exact fix to your problem, but I'm pretty sure that part of running in limp mode is decreased boost. Before you jump to far into anything I would run through and check all fuses and scan the thing for codes.
You could be running in limp mode and never get a check engine light.
