any signs of leakage?

Sounds like your transmission lost hydraulic pressure for some reason.

Have you checked the transmission oil level with the engine running?

I assume that the transfer case has been checked to actually be in gear? Someone recently wrote about your problem and it turned out their transfer case was in neutral (yeah, it will grind going into park when t-case is in neutral...maybe OP didn't mention it thinking it wasn't related).

Ahhh, the ambiguity of the written word . Do you have the auto-shift transfer case or do you have the floor mounted manual transfer case?

Well, I can't help you because I have never owned an auto-shift transfer case...OK you 4x4 geniuses, does the auto-shift transfer case have any way to be set into a NEUTRAL position...I see on the dial (in the manual) that the control **** has no neutral position.

I don't think there's any way to put them in neutral.
