I read it but doesn't help me. I have one of the newer tools that threads in, but doest want to hold. IF I can get it to bite it won't hold when I tighten the pulled nut. Talked to clay several times today and he is gonna send me a new tool next week. It looks to me like the threads are flat "Stripped" so I think that I why they won't bite hard enough. I do like the design of the tool in the first post of the write up thread though....except the pulling the rockers part.

Can you give the tool a little love tap on top with a hammer to get it to seat into the cup a bit better?

I believe we did that with Jim (rat49f6)'s when we did them.

Yes I did that a couple of times. The last time was just a hair more than a love tap because Clay told me I could not hurt it. I got it to bite and it was way more than the 55-60 ft lbs (Clay also said that would be okay) but when I tightened the puller nut it just pulled out and had copper shavings in the threads. Just wasnt sure if anyone else has had this problem. I am going to try agian tomorrow, but I am not expecting any different results because I tried for over an hour. Definition of instanity....."Doing the same thing over and over and expecting different results" Hmmmmmmmmmmmmmmm.........

Update

Well I determined that the threads were damaged. Clay sent me another one but the threads were damaged on it also. He was about to send me a brand new one, but I was in a hurry, so I built my own and they came out easily.

I will be creating a thread on DIY injector cup puller in case someone gets in a bind like I did.

I don't blame Clay as it is the nature of the beast. These things happen.

when we did jims, we had to "adapt" the tool to make it work. after welding the lock nut, seemed to work fine, if i recall.

Tried that on both tools and I was way over 55 (after clays approval) and they either just stripped out or pulled out when I tightened the puller nut.

Glad ya figured it out!

I was there when Jim did his cups, so I called him to make sure thats what he did before I called you back. FWIW, I don't think a few brass shavings in combustion chamber will ever hurt anything.

Drop a penny in the bottom of the cup to prevent that

I don't either, but you can do the penny trick and vacuum it really well.

I read about doing that, but didn't end up searching for the coinage. I don't usually carry cash.

They are all in just letting them it overnight before adding water and cleaner.
