ECM QUESTION

Trying to replace the ECM on my '96 300-6 F-150. I believe I read somewhere that the screws that hold the ECM to the heat sink require either a 5.5mm or 7/32 thinwall deep socket. is this true?

Also, I cannot separate the wiring connnector from the module. I've pulled as hard as I mpossibly can and tried prying being carefull not to damage the connector but it just doesnt budge.

Any help will be appreciated.

I suspect you are referring to the Ignition Control Module (ICM)?

Pull up on the tab a little while pulling back on the connector. And yes the socket size is as you listed.

Make sure the one you are putting on is BLACK in color and NOT gray.

Thanks for your replies. Yes it is the Ignition Control Module and I am pulling the tab up but the connector just won't come off and I'm afraid to damage it.

By the way why are you changing it?
The Black remote mounted ICM modules very seldom go bad.

From reading your other posts it sounds more like you have a bad PIP sensor on the stator inside the distributor.
