SEAT OPTIONS

I have a 1972 F250. I would like to put a more up to date bucket/bench type seat in ( like one with a fold down center console ) Someone here said that any seat from 65-97 should bolt right in. If this is true, does this apply to all Ford trucks / Bronco seats?

Thanks Todd.

Bump

Anyone else know about this?

The bench I have now is really shot and it has a ugly brown cover on it.

I have a 94 seat in my 68.You have to change the seat tracks from your old seat to the new seat its all a bolt on.So you can go up to 96 some 97 that are the old body style. For bucket seats you need to get 2 more seat brackets I think some one said you can get them thru Bronco Graveyard.

I don't know if this is your taste, but in my truck I plan to use 2 seats out of a late 80's Saab. Then build a little center counsel for my truck.

I saw the seats at my local pyp, and they are very comfy. They are a pretty wide bucket seat so I feel I can really stretch out inside my truck. The only problem with them is I will have to make my own brackets.

Also have you considered moving the fuel tank to under the bed? It will give you some more room for a center counsel, and for stuff behind the seats. My 66 has it behind the seat, but my dent had it under the bed. So I don't know when in the bump era they made the full switch.

Under the bed tanks started with the dents in 73 on two wheel drives, early-mid 77 on four wheel drives.

I did a tech article a few years ago showing how I put a 1995 F150 seat with the fold down center armrest in my 1972. If I can find it I'll post it for you. It's really an easy swap, I think I spent less than an hour on the whole project.

Sorry I didn't get back to you sooner, I had to find the old web page I had set up and upload it again. You can check out this site for pics of my truck and the how-to I wrote for installing a late model seat in a 67-72 F100

Thanks BWB!!! This is exactly what I need. Now, hopefully I can find a seat that looks as good as that in black, beige or green!

Glad to help! A lot has changed on my old 72 since I put that old web page together. I got divorced a few years ago and the truck was in limbo for quite a while as we argued over who got what. While it sat for over a year without being driven the paint faded badly, the upholstery got in pretty bad shape, and things just basically went downhill. I started working on it a couple of months ago and if all goes as planned it will be show ready by the fourth of July. I've converted it over to a Taurus electric fan and a 130 amp 3g alternator, the seat in those instructions is still in the truck but it has been recovered in gray leather, I added a 68 Cobra Jet hood scoop, and I'll be spraying new paint in a couple of weeks (Cobalt Blue Candy with airbrushed realistic "blue fire" flames on the leading edge of the hood. I'll update that page with new pics when I'm done. I'm going to add pics of my dads copper pearl 1966 F100 too. It's another SHARP old Ford!

Know the drill

Boy, you bring back bad memories. Back in 2003 I was doing a quasi frame up resto on my 65 when my wife sued for a divorce. So, I parted out what I could and I cried (the frame and cab went to the crusher ) since I was relegated to a studio apartment and nowhere to keep her.

I bought that truck FOR $500 back in 1986 In Tacoma WA. and trailered it all the way back to CT. I loved that truck! Best $500 bucks I ever spent!!
In 91' I bought and rebuilt a 390 for it and replaced the I6 300. Great engine, just tired. That was the only major thing I did. The body was very straight and mechanically she was a peach. I still miss her. Can you tell????

I got lucky with my 72 F250 CS/SC( not as lucky as my 65 though ) . It is from Sparks Nevada which translates into virtually no rust. The frame looks better than most 2005's around here. It has a 428 and is very sound in all aspects.

I want to basically keep her road worthy and protected as much as possible. A restoration is not in the cards right now. I'm hoping that maybe my son can do that with his son/daughter when the time comes.

What I'm going to focus on is rust abatement, interior, engine compartment, and drive train. And of course maintenance. If you go into the Gallery and type in 1972 F250 you can see my truck ( page 7 I believe bottom ). The pictures are from when it was in Sparks, Nevada and the owner was Alan Gross. It still is that terrible turd brown.

I want to do a two tone with Hunter green upper, Wimbeldon white lower and cab roof. If it is economical I am going to have the center of the rims powder coated in Hunter green.

I want to do the interior in Hunter green/black but I will go with beige/tan if I find a cherry seat in that color. Beige seems to be a popular color for later model interior?

I plan on totally changing the instrument panel. I never cared for the post 65/66 instrument set ups with the big sweeping arm and idiot gauges. I'm going to put in a large circular speedo w/ smaller circular gauges for tach, temp, amps, oil press, trans temp.

I also want to find a 67 grill ( complete ) There's something about the 72' grill which scream incomplete! You know, how the signal lights look like an after thought?.

If the truck was all original I probably wouldn't change these things.

Have you taken any pics yet? I would really like to see that truck. If you can, send them to me as attachements in an email. I can't see too many pics on the site because of works firewall and I don't have a home computer hooked up to the net.

email: mckayt@aetna.com. Thanks Bud, Todd.
