I have a 02 f250 I think it is a spicer 80 solid front diff. I am having troubles getting the axles seals out, especially on the passenger side since it is so far in, any ideas? Plus it there a tool needed to install the new ones? Thank you
As far as getting the seals/axles out, just keep pulling while you move the knuckle from side to side and up and down. It will come out, it just takes some serious pulling. I remember putting my feet on the frame while pulling!!
I got the axles out but the seals I cant seem to get a puller on them to get them out, was wondering if ya had some idea? I was using a slide hammer but there is not much of a lip to catch.
There is a dust seal on the outer of the diff and inner oil seal by the carrier on each side, was wondering if I have to take the carrier out to get to the seals and which way they come out? Thanks
OK, i think I got ya' now, you are talking about the oil seals inside the axle shaft close to the diff?
From what I understand you must get to them from inside the diff housing. I have never done this but need to because my front axle is leaking oil from the diff.
Here is a link to a thread about this, also if you see post #9 there is another link to step by step procedures on the process of getting the oil seals out. Those instructions are for a 1997 F350 so hopefully you will be able to use that info.
I have replaced these seals.I took a pipe that is long enough to go inside the axle housing.Make sure it is slightly smaller than the seals and take a hammer and knock them out.
As far as installing the new seals,I built a setting tool that worked o.k. but I will buy the right tool next time. The seals must go in straight or you will mess it up....Yes,I did.
