2008 5.4 F350 with 66k miles

Does anyone know how these 5.4s are? I'm looking at an 08 with 66k miles on it. Is that high miles? I cant touch the diesels or anything with lower mileage. These trucks seem to really hold there value. Any thoughts? My cousin sells Chevrolet, so thats what I have. I gotta get out of this thing. I need my Ford back.

The 5.4 is capable for light to medium towing and will haul up to your payload capacity with no problems. It will rev high, but it is designed that way. It won't be the fastest thing on the road either, so don't buy it and then complain that it is slow or "what can I do to get more power out of this DOG!?" as some members here have done.

66K is not high miles, just as with anything, it has been maintained properly. If it has, and you continue, it should last over 200K. The Ford Modular Engines are excellent.

Yeah I don't care about speed. Its a truck. i was worried about the miles, but I feel better now. I dont do real heavy towing so I think that truck would work for me. Have to see if I can swing it.

I'll ride right along with JC on his comment. It isn't a drag truck but if you rev her she'll do what needs done. About the only thing to wake it up is steeper gears. Anything that goes wrong with it has been covered here and if you're handy with a wrench at all you can fix it. Mine just rolled 70k and runs like a top.

Is the truck SRW or DRW? Check to see what the gearing is on the truck.

If you decide on buying it, post pics!

I'll warn you, the factory limited slip is REALLY limited - if you plan to do much off roading or need more traction for snow or something you might want to invest in an upgraded limited slip. My 2005 has the same rearend and w/ 90,000mi the limited slip is completely worn out, it's only one tiny step above an open diff. A Detroit tru trac is on my wish list.

I love my 5.4, I don't tow very heavy (7-8,000) and Kansas is pretty flat so I've never lacked for power or speed for that matter. If I towed much heavier or anyplace w/ hills I'd want better gears but the 3.73's have worked fine for me so far.

Great engine and no that is nothing for miles. That's why they hold there value so well. Get maintenance records if u can. Check for broken manifold studs. Check ball joints, wheel bearings, and just the front end in general. If u get it Change all the fluids for a fresh start. My 03 f350 xlt does anything and everything i need it to and then some. I love my 5.4!

How about 145k miles on a 6.4 l diesel? I don't even know if I can get financing on a truck with over 100k miles. Is 145k a lot on that 6.4?

That depends entirely on how well it was treated and maintained....

145K is nothing on a properly maintained diesel. You should be able to get financing. Being that it is a diesel, the maximum mileage is higher. I got mine financed with over 200K on it.

My 08 has 84K on it. No leaks, doesn't use oil. Tows my 3 horse trailer w/ living quarters (about 7-8Klbs) just fine. 4x4, ball joints are still tight, no play. Great truck. I wouldn't worry about 66k as long as it was maintained. Beware, you are right at spark plug replacement time, which can be an ordeal. Tranny fluid change is also a $400 dealer cost.

I have a 2000 f250 5.4 sc sb and it does everything I want, 195,000 and no leaks anywhere, tranny still in tact, etc, I even drove it through a building this winter and after some major front end work and a few coils later she's driving good as new! You won't regret it
