400 rebuild

I bought my truck it had a miss come to find out, cracked valve. You could tell the bottom end had been recently rebuilt(2500 miles or so ) just poorly very poorly.
The heads are back all new everything. The block, crank, and rods are going this week to shop. I am having the block dipped, cam bearing, freeze plugs, and honed (cylinders looked great) it has been bored .020 over last time. The crank is .010 under its getting polished. The rods are getting checked. The pistons are fine planning to reuse, there forged. Here is where I need help I want the best parts to put back in (don't want to do it again for a long time). I thinking Clevite bearings, Melling high volume oil pump, chrome molly rings and fel-pro gaskets.I have Crane cam lifters, springs and rockers. with elderbrock double roller timing set, perfomer 400 intake and 600 carb.New headers.
The truck will be a daily driver but once in a while it will pull camper, play in the mud and run around the moutains.
Thanks for any help.

i doubt you'll ever have to go back into it if you do all as you say and it's done correctly. i would guess you could do a lot less and still no go back into it for as long you own it.
chances are you're going to wreck it, sell it, or get tired of it and get the new truck bug before you wear it out. with todays' lubercants, you can probably get 150,000 miles or more out it with no problems with the motor.

400 rebuild

frankster123, thanks planning on owning this truck until I die. I've wanted a nice one since Bigfoot came out in the late 70's this is my second 4x4 1st f250. My first was a 79 f150 but i was to young and drank too much. so i tore the hell out of it and did'nt know how to fix it.This one I plan to keep and I want the best for it. Thanks

Your build up is very similar to what I'm building. I think the main difference is I'm going to use 351c pistons and Victor gaskets. All the other parts are basically the same.

I think you'll have a very good engine.

Are Victor gaskets better? I don't know the maker of my pistons but they are nice forged pistons. The person who built this engine spent some money on certain parts. They had lousy workmanship.
Thanks

I personally like Victor's more than other brands for the 351/400s. I've had better luck with them as far as fit. Any name brand will work, though.

I'm going with the following:
Pistons- Kieth Black 351c flat-top
Cam- Melling .484-.510
Lifters- Crane hydraulic
Bearings- Clevite or Perfect Circle
Timing chain- Edelbrock roller, also valve springs & retainers
Valves- Ferrea stainless 2V
Rockers- roller drop-in
Intake- Weiand dual plane
Carb- Holley 4160 600cfm
Headers- 1 5/8 bolted to 2 1/2 dual exhaust
Heads- '72 351c 2V ported & polished, slightly milled, stelite seats, bronze guides

Will add:
MSD ignition
electric radiator fan
hi-output alternator
