hauling headache

I recently bought a used 2005 f250 6.0L diesel. This is my first diesel truck and up to today I love it. Hauled the camper (5400lbs) for the first time this weekend. On the way back home, I had the truck in tow/haul mode but I kept losing power at about 65mph. I would come up to a hill and the truck would slowly lose power. I could maintain a speed of 55-60mph but the rmps would lock in at 2500 and would not shift to the next gear. I had to twice pull over to even get it to down shift. I got home, unhooked the trailer took it out of tow/haul and drove around and had no issues with power. Any suggestions as to what I should be looking at? I did change the air filter before the trip and the turbo was reading about 20psi when I was having issues. (the hills were not steep at all)

Have you changed your fuel filter. It could be clogged and starving the engine for fuel when under load when towing.

Sounds like fuel restriction. I went via the same headache with my 7.3 a year ago. Turned out that plastic strainers inside the tank have been varnished.
