Well since I have had my truck I have been trying to get it running right and Im finally going back to sqaure one. I have been having fuel problems and not getting it to run correctly. So I decided tonight to go back over everything on the carb. I found the float was not correct, the mixture screws were way to far out and that I believe I may have a 360 in this truck and not the 390 I was told was in it. No big deal really to me, just I feel like an idiot, all this time and thinking it was somthing it was not (Im new to this world). What caught my eye was the carb tag, D6TE YB (whats the YB???) and then going back to the VIN and its a F11"Y". Well before I had just set everything to the specs of a 390 and disregarded the carb tag id (I know dumb move). Well the float level was way different. So I reset it to the specs and set the mixture screws to 1-1/2 turns out. I did that and it fired right up, idled up but then died out, now its acting like its starved, I had to hold the throttle a little to keep it running (but it was smooth not choking to death on raw fuel). I figured at 10:30 the nieghbors would not like hearing it so I have to wait till morning. I am leaning toward the choke not being set right, the fast idle is off and maybe the choke pull off is not right?? Basically Im going to look over that entire side of the carb and check things out. I was wondering if anyone could give me any heads up on the choke pull off. No where during its travel does it pull or push the carb linkage to the choke/fast idle side, is this normal??? So what I would like to know is am I better off with the 360 if that is infact what I have?? Thanks for the help, Im getting there just a little at a time.
better off throwing that carb in the trash and going with an edelbrock 4 bbl set up set it once and forget it every motocraft/holly carb i have ever had give me trouble including the one for my scs with 460 leaking gas out the front gaskets just from sitting so 450.00 later..... 2 carbs are in the mail
Down the road I plan on getting another carb, but for now I have to get it running and see if there are any other main issues to tackle. Dont have the funds to dump in this truck right now, just spent $1500 on my wifes 4runner. So for now the motorcraft has to stay until I find out if the truck will run well and does nt have any major problems
