Gear Ratios

I think I am running 3.73 but I will check later. My question is what is the difference in the gears. I know 4.10 was also offered but you can get other gear such as 4.53 (I think thats what it is). What would be the pros/cons of the different ratios?

I wasnt asking for opinions, because I have no problems either. I am more just in search for knowledge.

Then what the heck is the difference between "what would be" and "opinion"? You asked about pros and I stated that 3.73 tows fine and great mileage, sheesh

it depends on other things...Tire height??? stock, 3.73 is good all around...I run 37" tires and use 4.56 gears, they are a little low but i love the pull/towing the truck has....if your gearing holds 1800-2000 @ 70mph while towing i would think you are good...if you use 4.30 with stock tires, it will tow/pull stronger but you RPMs increase at crusing speed which means less MPG....just my 02....

Thats more or less what I was looking for. Higher gears will raise RPM.. Better for heavy towing, worse on MPG?

If you Do HEAVY pulling... Get the 4.56 gears.

Light to moderate pulling... 4.10.

Light pulling and DD... 3.73.

I do mostly daily driving and plowing, with some moderate pulling.... and LOVE my 3.73's.

Puts me right at 2,000rpm's at 70mph, and I get 16-18mpg regularly.

Higher gears will lower RPM,(good if you want to run 85mph@1800rpm) Lower gears will Raise RPM (for towing/pulling)

And if you go to Randys Ring & Pinion web site they have all the info you need for calculating RPMs & MPH versas gear ratios. Very easy to figure out what you need.
