Could someone please explain to me the procedure for adjusting the advance mechanism via the screw in the vacuum chamber port ? i've installed a new stock distributor in my 352. I want it to be working at peak performance before my petronix points conversion arrives. i have installed new timming chain and gears and degreed the cam/crank . everything is stock for now. have c4ae-6090 heads 4160 Holley, dual exhaust,
Without a dyno to check, it's going to be tough to tell if the adjustment will make a difference. It will depend on your static timing, mechanical advance, state of engine tune, fuel octane, etc. Things will probably change and you'll have to do it over after you put in the petronix. The factory setting should be OK 'til then. Of course, if you get pinging or stumbling you might want to adjust it before the conversion.
Just my 2¢

Thanks. Carb has been rebuilt ,timming is set at 6 dg. btc I have all new parts on ignition system,i.e coil, resistor wire, plugs, wires, points , condensor; and I do have some stumbling, and some pinging on acceleration and an occasional back fire through carb. Since the engine is stock I believe the vacuum secondaries are adequate and the acc. pump is set right, floats are adjusted correctly also. The mech. advance is out of the box stock. If you could please advise me on direction of allen screw in vacuum chamber , rotation to achieve desired results, which is a smooth and
efficient engine timming advance system. Also- will I need to use 8mm wires when I install the petronix point replacement and flame thrower coil, and what about plug gap ?????
All advice is deeply appreciated. thanks in advance.
