I have a 1997 E150. I need help with my keyless remote entry.

I disconnected the battery to remove my stereo. Ever since I reconnected the battery the remote entry has been acting up. It'll lock and unlock but when I go to turn the motor over I have to unlock it again. It'll start when I hit the 'valet button' but it goes back to the same problem when I relock the vehicle.

Any ideas? Thanks...

Hi sando and welcome to FTE

By your description it sounds like your system is an aftermarket one and not a Ford factory keyless entry? If so do you know what brand it is?

I bought the van used but I'm almost sure that it's factory equipment. It's got the three-button fob.

I did some looking around here and found a suggestion of turning the ignition on/off 5 times to reprogram. I think I'll give that a try.

Let us know how you make out.
There are lots of great guys here but sometimes they seem to hide in the woodwork

Some of them have to figure out that just because I'm the moderator that doesnt mean I know everything so they can speak up more

Damn. Foiled.

I did the on/off routine with no luck. This is definitely original equipment. I am looking at the manual now. No info on how to reset or troubleshoot.

I have disconnected the battery again in hopes of it resetting on its own. That didn't work either.

I'm hoping somebody has an idea to try. I'd rather not have to fork over $100 to the Ford dealer for them to fix it.

sando factory systems dont have a valet button.
