ok i have a 95 f250 and im having a few problems here lately and dont know where to start with it. truck has 158xxx miles on it and has the automatic tranny. problems are as follows
1. hard shifting from first to second and second to third. vss maybe? tranny was replaced like 20k ago
2. when just driving off from a red light truck will act normal and drive but then will like lose power and rpms will drop maybe 200 or more then it comes back and like picks up speed fast like i was giving it more pedal then i am but its not the tranny doing it just like the motor goes down all of a sudden.
3. shifting is weird hard to explain sometimes its good and then sometimes it hits hard like said before but will be higher rpms before it finally shifts to next gear( like 2500 rpm) and also it sometimes acts like it doesnt know what gear to go into and almost bounces between the two gears.
all it has on it is straight pipe and intake at the moment and all the fluids and filters were just changed not to long ago maybe 1500 miles ago.
really just looking for anything you guys recommend to do to help it out ive searched and just dont know where to start with it all.
The VSS would be a good place to start. Pull it off and give it a look. You might take a look at the connector to the transmission range sensor and the sensor itself. If nothing else to eliminate that possibility.
just looked at vss had some stuff on it but i cleaned it off and all looked good checked wires to on it. ill have to check the range sensor next and see if thats the cause. checked icp a few mins ago unplugged it and it kept running good after it was unplugged also started it unplugged and started right up only started to die when i plugged it back in after truck was running without it. does that mean anything?
To me if it started with the ICP unplugged there may be an IPR issue. Sticking open. Not sure on the other. But it has nothing to do with the transmission.
yeah i bet its the sensor on the trans. whats a good sign it needs to be replaced? just like moisture inside it? ive been trying to search alot but figured itd be better to just post and see what you all had to say about it
ok thanks ill check that and get back on here with what happens. so ipr is a good guess for the loss of power while just trying to accelerate ill check that out to
ok everything got worse today driving home from work. truck was shifting like crap and kept bouncing gears and then almost stalled at the light all of a sudden rpms went to like 200 and kept bouncing back up and down to like a 1000 without even touching the pedal got me by suprise at the light and moved me forward a little more then i would like in traffic. so whats up?? anybody have any ideas what could be going on?
yeah got to find somebody around me to check them threw the check engine earlier turned truck off at work and started it after work went to drive home and when i started the light was gone but kicked back on and did what i said before when i was almost home. im going to call around tomo to find somebody with a scanner for this truck and see what it threw out

Check a CPS?
Put a new one in, lol!
You can check the wires going to the CPS and see if the connection or the wires are corroded, but usually if it's the CPS.... you just need to change it.
I have the gray one now, but I am planning on getting the International Black one. The grey one makes the #3 and #8 cylinders look weak on the CCT on my truck.... kinda annoying.
