Install was a huge pain for me. Had to remove the new DP once or twice to eliminate rattles, but the stock downpipe is probably the single worst part of the Powerstroke design. Removing it opens up a world of mods. Leaving it in is not an option in my opinion. Wish I had the room for a 4"DP, but it is not possible. I have a straight 4" pipe back with a straight-through muffler. No regrets.

4" is possible, but only with extensive firewall modification. I do agree though, the stock down pipe is definitely the choke point in the system, even just getting rid of that and keeping the rest of the factory exhaust would be a big improvement.

My buddy did just that before I bought the truck from him. My only exhaust mod so far is a Banks downpipe. It may be a different brand but hey, at least it's a good start. I'm thinking I might leave the cat on and just straight pipe the muffler and call it good

I'd highly recommend a kitty go gone mod. Once you see how restrictive it is you'll want to get rid of it. If you think you might need it for emissions testing or whatever, hang onto it after you remove it.

Guess I'm just a bit paranoid that the fuzz will figure out it's not there and slam me with a fat ticket. There is no emissions here but I may be moving anyhow
Unless you live somewhere that requires emissions testing I doubt anyone is ever going to crawl under your truck and check for a cat. For that matter, the chance that they would know it was factory equipped with one is probably slim.
I have the 3.5" DiamondEye DP to 4" exhaust, with factory cat, exiting through the DE 4" muffler at the stock location. I'm disabled and had a shop do my install, so I'm no help on how difficult the install is.
Turbo whistle is noticeable to a point but not annoying to family members. My gals have not said anything negative about the exhaust tone or sound level.
How did your install go?
So a 4" to 4" pipe or muffler works? in the stock location? Is it clamps or do you have to do any welding?
