That depends if it's 2wd or 4wd. If it's 4wd, to the best of my knowledge, it was never offered. No 73-79 4WD f100/f150 ever came with a 460 from the factory (or so I'm told). It is a popular swap though.

No ford 73-9 4x4 F100 F150 F250 F350 came from the factory with a 460. I think that they were offered with a 300I6, 351m and 400. In 73-6 you could get a 352, 360, 390, and I think a 428. Hopefully you don't have a 460 IMO.

I believe that we have already established that the truck is a 2WD. So the 460 was an option. Are you sure that it is not a 360? Just curious.

Well the guy said it was a 460 that had been slightly built up by some local shop before he bought it. Im guessing its a nice running motor since he told me that the engine was the only reason he bought the truck. I havent heard her run yet but i will before cash exchanges hands.

Btw this thing also needs a radiator, i have found 2 for 50 bucks. But a buddy of mine has one out of an 85 f150 with a 300, would that rad work? I'm hoping you guys can save me some run around time with that one .

I can't wait till i can take this beast mudding

No on the radiator. You Can use one for a 351/400 with a/c. I have a 351 3 core in mine with a 460. It stays around 200 in the summer. It has never gone over 220 and that is in 95 degree weather towing a load. The 460 had a 4 core radiator. It's about $100 more than the 3 core.

Well i just found out he has a radiator out of a 351 so it looks like im in luck. I also found an electric fan for 60 bucks in jegs, how much would this help the cooling?

It's important that the radiator is a 3 or 4 core model that came from a 429 or 460. I think you can use one that was in front of a 390 as well since your truck is a 73. If you get one from a junkyard make sure it holds water so you don't pay through the nose to have it re-cored.

I would highly recommend a good clutch fan with a shroud. Most electric fans won't cut it.
