HELP
my 06 HD AWD has developed a clunking type noise, when turning the steering wheel hard right or left, from a dead start. even backing up. feels like having a bad universal. you turn the wheel and step on the gas and CLUNK, and it engages and it's fine. took it to the local ford dealer and they had no clue. the thought the clutches in the rear end might be bad and for a $1,000 they would rebuild the rearend. i tried to explain that i thought it was something in the AWD, but they dismissed that. 90% of the time it's fine. let it sit and go to drive it and CLUNK. the truck only has 25K and spends most of the time, in the garage. any ideas????????
Does it seem/feel like it is coming from the rear or the center or front? Hard to tell what it is without actually driving it. Could be anything from a shock mount to a suspension bushing, to steering column shaft etc etc etc.
