Carb options

My 82 F100 has a 302 and (I assume) a 2bbl carb. I think I have an intake leak, and I am thinking about replacing the carb with a 4bbl. The truck is stock and a daily driver. Think I should stick with the 2bbl or go to a 4bbl? Just don't want to put money into anything that isn't really going to upgrade the truck.

Putting a 4 barrel on a 302 may be pointless unless you are going to really beef up the motor. Even so, I have experienced little gain on a Ford. I had a 289HP built up in a '67 Cougar, and the previous owner had a 4 barrel holly on it. When i put the two barrel back on it, it ran much better. Ford makes good two barrels for the short block 289/302, but a better performance two barrel may help, but a four barrel will only lead to running too rich and floating the valves all the time, unless you get a bigger intake manifold. Then you are soon looking at shortening the life of the moter unless you go all out and start rebuilding the whole thing.

I see your point and had considered this. The PO replaced the carb with a Holley 2bbl and other than some choke issues it runs well.
