59-60 4x4

I recently went to a junk yard in my town and saw an early model ford 4 wheel drive. After i came home and checked around on this site i realized it was probably a 59 or 60 model. The body is in good shape, but it needs an engine. I was just wondering what the this truck would have for a front/rearend, i was thinking either a dana 44 or dana 30 and ford 9". It has a 5 lug pattern so i guess it's a f-100 or f-150.

I appreciate any help that you could give me.

Thanks

Hi Robert, and welcome to FTE!

The '59-'60 4x4's all had the following axles.............

F-100
Dana 44-4F front axle..... 3.92 gear ratio
Ford 9" rear axle............. 3.89 gear ratio

F-250
Dana 44-4F front axle..... 4.55 gear ratio
Dana 60 rear axle .......... 4.56 gear ratio

Hope this helps.

Thanks for the reply. I was also wondering what kind of transfer case might be under the truck. It is a divorced transfer case behind a standard transmission. Thanks again for the help.

Hi Robert,

That would be the Dana 24, 2 speed transfer case.

High range........1.00 to 1 gear ratio
Low range.........1.86 to 1 gear ratio

I just bought a 1959 4x4 it has 9 inch differentials at both ends check to see if there is a removable center section or if it has a removable diff cover that is a good and easy way to tell what king of axle you are looking at.
