Question Front end woes

Today, I swerved to miss a feral hog and went into the median, hit a concrete drain, blew out my drivers side front tire, went around and around and ended up back on the side of the road. I change to my spare then went to Discount Tire for a new tire. When I started driving my steering wheel was upside down !
Not in it's normal straight across way it's suppose to be and there's about 1/4 of a turn steering slop before the steering engages. There's all kinds of other stuff torn up like the liner etc..
But what would cause the steering wheel to be upside down and the 1/4 slop ????
I'm going out in the morning and jack it up and check to see what I can find.
But does anyone have any ideas as to what might cause this ???
Thanks, and I'll post back what I find.....

Could be as simple as the alignment got knocked off, could be bent parts...

Silly question though, you have a ranch hand bumper and it was a feral hog, so why'd you swerve???

Instinct I guess...
I sure hope it's not too bad and I can repair parts myself, like the fender liner and where the wires go (if i can find the other end)...
laffin...

Inspect the sector shaft(I believe that is what it is called?) coming off the bottom of the steering box connecting to the drag link, they have been know to crack when impacted heavily that could account for the play, the steering wheel can be centered back up by adjusting the sleeve on that link as well if all else drives well and looks ok.

You may be very front end knowledgable but if you are not I would get it checked out at a reputable place.Frnt ends can be tricky and we have seen a few steering components broken on here from just daily driving.
You do not want to be going 70mph and you all of the sudden lose control and not be able to recover.
Good luck.

I'm going to agree with what others have stated and at least have a reputable shop look things over, unless you are skilled in this area. I am not, so I had mine checked when I had new tires installed. PLEASE make sure that the shop KNOWS about front end components. When mine was inspected they said everything was great, even asked if it had new ball joints on it. Said, nope, wanted you to check it cause its been poppin on the driver side. They stated no problems. Got home and jacked up the driver side and what do ya know, I'm getting ready to replace the ball joints.

I've been under the truck nearly all day (until it got too hot).
I haven't found anything bent or broken.( I measured each side to make sure nothing had been shoved back) The dust cover for the shock is torn but still in place. I started to repair the liner but the ins. adjuster said to wait until they look at it.
Is it possible that the steering box could be messed up ?
I've called a good front end shop in Corpus but they will be closed until Tue. because of the holiday.
Can they determine if the steering box was damaged to maybe stripped or something ?
How much is it to replace the box ? Can they be rebuilt or new only ? My ded. is 475 so I'm out that much anyway.
Thanks again and I am curious about the steering box......

I would bet you bent something if your wheel has moved that much...And as mentioned above, as much as you probably need your truck, if you loose and end link or any component for that matter your steering is gone. For your own safety, have it checked over by someone that knows what to look for and at a minimum...back roads till then

Put up some pics. I can help with some good pics.

The steering box could be bad, if you go with insurance get it replaced. A new Ford one is spendy. Aftermarket is like $300...
