'05 F150 overdrive shifting problem

Read the above posts and forum threads
Hey everyone,
There have been several excellent posts answering the question on this exact forum. I just went through this entire process myself, search my other posts for a detailed write up on transmission versus COPs. It starts with overdrive then progresses to drive....it feels like the car is being hit by something, let off the gas and the problem goes away.
I read every thread i could on this forum...by far the most common problem is:
1) COPs (Coil Over Packs) - mount directly to the spark plug
2) Spark Plug
Could it be the transmission or torque converter, yes, BUT until you do 1 and 2 above don't go there. A code will not always be thrown, it may turn on the engine light momentarily but self clear. I only registered a code once, all the other times were transient.

06 Screw, RWD Automatic. Mine was doing exactly this. 120,000 miles, bought used with 78,000. Replaced plugs and all coils. No hesitation, no slack, just gets up and runs now. Broke 6 of the plugs replacing them. Local parts store has the tool to remove them as a loaner tool. Was much easier removing the broken plugs than I was led to believe. I got the plugs(Motorcraft), and all 8 coils(generic) off of the Auction site(ebay) for a total of $150. Stealer wanted $499 plus $50 per broken plug to do the work. and that didn't include the coils($79.95 ea). Now to figure out why I get the fuel odor when I first start it up. Going to pull number 8 plug, and check to see if it's seating properly, Did get a CEL indicating a miss there....wiggled the coil and connections a little, and the CEL went away. Which kind surprised me. Was figuring I'd need to clear it with a scan tool, or disconnect the battery, but neither was needed.

I recently had the transmission fluid in my 2005 F150 drained, flushed, and replaced by a local garage that has done great work in the past. Shortly after it was changed I noticed that between 45-55 mph if im cruising in overdrive (mostly in slow traffic) that the transmission will jerk the entire truck. If feels almost like I hit a pothole in the road.....but I know its the tranny jolting the entire truck. Furthermore, it only happens when overdrive is engadged and I press the gas just a little more, but not enough to make it down shift into 4th gear. I don't know if the tranny is trying to downshift and can't decided whether to or not, or if there is something internally wrong. Any information you can provide me with would be great.
At the moment this only happens when in overdrive. I fear that if I let this continue to happen I will lose OD completely or worse yet.....lose my entire transmission. What might this be due to?

The "low grade" misfire doesn't throw a code, but the computer picks up the misfire & is sending information for the tranny to shift & you feel the tranny shift hard.
I've had lots of other potential big issues solved through these forums. Tefinke@yahoo.com

I had this problem on my 2005 F150 with the Triton engine. Being the senior engineer on advanced ignition systems in the late 70's and early 80's, at Chrysler, I pretty much knew what it was when the symptoms happened. I had bucking when in overdrive when going uphill or pulling a load. this bucking would stop when I downshifted and got out of overdrive. The problems is with this lower engine speed and load, the coil needs to put out a higher voltage to fire the coil (up to 30kv), The coil most likely has an internal crack in the epoxy in the coil which shorts out the secondary and causes a misfire resulting in the bucking.
Coil changed and issue solved. This most likley will occur again on the other coils over time.

If there are no codes, you have to use a scan tool to go in and look at the individual cylinder misfire counts in Mode $06 during the same power-on cycle that the symptom occurred. The odds of finding an AutoZoner who knows how to do this would be pretty close to zero.

Issues and more
I have an 05 F-150 Lariat, 158,000 miles on it. I had the same shifting issues as all of you, but as of yesterday my truck will not even shift into gear above 30 MPH in Overdrive. If I press the gas hard from a stop it will shoot into the next gear, but as soon as I let off it goes right back down. If I try to gain speed the RPM's just rev high and I get no more speed.
I will say up front that I am not mechanically inclined enough to test this myself. I gather from reading that my first issue's MAY be the spark plugs and coils, any ideas about why my truck wont even shift now?
