i recently replaced the brake pads on my 99 f150 (4wheel anti-lock discs) and have put about 5000 miles on them. the recently developed a squeal after they have warmed up a bit. i removed them, cleaned them, re-lubed them and put them back on. rotors are in very good shape, still well within specs and no irregular wear on them. they still squeal. any ideas?
Only time mine have done that was when they might have a small bend in them...somtimes if the grease cap is bent it could be a factor...and it might only be one break making the noise.....hard to say whats wrong after you took them off and cleaned them and then re-lubed them.that should have fixed it....thats kinda weird....and 5,000 miles ain't nothing for break pads.....i tell you , you can go to a tire store and they will fix it for you with no problem....but if your a do it yourselfer i really don't know what could be wrong unless they are bent in some ..
hey if all else fails duct tape and WD40 fixs everything lol
And if duct tape and WD40 doesnt fix them I think I'd try a different set of pads. I'd better be careful here...someone may be clueless enough to try duct taping and WD'ing their pads
Do NOT put duct tape or WD40 on your pads
lol
After reading the story about the sand in the engine (I posted a link in the general conversation forum), I'm not convinced that some people would be smart enough to not WD their brakes
Some brands of pads are noisier than others. I've had good luck with Motorcraft Prefered pads and also with some cheap offshore brand pads. Raybestos makes pads that they say are very quiet and clean. You can find out more about them on their website.
