Intermittent Issues / Thank you

A couple of weeks ago, I began experience some intermittent surging/stalling issues. The truck was behaving somewhat erratically just cruising down the street. It would all of a sudden have a ton of power for a very brief period. Other times, it would simply stall out in the middle of the road. It wasn't consistent and I couldn't reliably reproduce the issues.

My starter also started acting up last week. It would just "click." Wrapped it with a wrench and it would start again. It finally failed completely on Sunday. I had to use a bigger hammer this time and it finally engaged. Unfortunately, it got stuck engaged. It would kick out after the engine started, but continued to spin. I shut the truck off and it continued to spin. I disconnected the batteries to get it to quit spinning in the hopes I could at least get it home. No luck. As soon as I hooked the batteries back up, it tried to start the engine again (with the key in the off position).

I put a new starter in last night and all seems to be well. Best part is the starter was under warranty (just over 2 years old), so it only cost me time to get it put in.

Thanks to prior posts I've read on this forum, the stalling/surging seems to be taken care of !!! I put a new filter in before the surging/starting started, but didn't have the time to clean out the fuel bowl / fpr properly. I took the filter out again last weekend, sprayed out the / FPR with carb cleaner and poured Diesel Kleen in the empty fuel bowl before putting the filter back in.

Truck runs like a champ now!!! The injectors are nice and quiet on the road and for the first time since I can remember, I hear road noise over the engine when I'm just cruising. The surging/stalling appears to be gone as well.

THANK YOU to all the members on here that have given some great advice!!
