89 f150 5speed tanny Question
My trans. is shot and needs to be replaced. Does anyone know what manual trans. they put in that year and if they are interchangeable. My truck has the 5.0, 4x4, and I do know its not the "granny low" tranny if that helps any. Also, how can I tell what tranny it has, Ive gottan under and looked but was unable to see any indentifing marks or numbers.

I have the same setup, the transmission should be Mazda-type M5OD, also called M5R2. There is a tag on the driver's side door pillar that shows what trans it came with...under Trans mine just says 'M' I guess for manual.

Is it the 4 speed or 5 speed OD tranny?
4 speed will be the T18 and 5 speed OD M5R2.
Any year of those tranny will bolt right up, as long as they come out of another 4x4 truck, and are off a small block engine. (4.9L inline 6, 5.0L V8 and 5.8L V8.)

I have called a couple of salvage yards and I was told two 5 speed manual trans were used, one was the mazda and another call ZF. I was told the M on the inside of the driver side door means its the Mazda trans.

Yes there is the much better ZF you can hook up also, as long as it's a 4x4 tranny, and off a small block it will bolt right up.
The ZF is a heavy duty trans. found only in F250's and F350's though.
