manual or electric choke?

I am about to get an edelbrock intake manifold and carburetor. I am trying to decide between the electric choke and the manual choke. I read that the electric choke says that it is calibrated more for mileage than performance. I was wondering if anyone had any experience with these carbs and about how much performance is sacrificed in the name of mileage?

manual or electric choke?

Ive had both. The electric choke I liked more. I didnt really notice any loss in performance. Yes, I managed to squeeze a bit better mileage out of it, but nothing to brag about.

thanks for the input i am aware that driving the aerodynamic equivalent of a wall on wheels i am never going to get great gas mileage but almost terrible is better than terrible.

I second the choice of an electric choke. Once you get the adjustments right, you can forget it. There should be no difference in mileage because of the choke, although the new manifold and carb may get you a little more.......that is, if you don't stand on if too much.
