Tool for pulling EGR Valve

Hello All, just wanted to find out what you all are using to pull your egr. I've pulled mine out twice now to clean it, and its a pita to get mine out. I've read of folks tying some bailing/mechanics wire to the 2 screw holes, then wrapping that wire over a large pipe (for leverage) and then using the alternator to pivot the pipe on. Its still a pain. Hard enough to try an twist the egr to even get the wire in the holes. Does anyone have any tricks or special tools they use? I was thinking of buying a slide hammer. Thanks in advace.

I use the claw end of my hammer. Get it just under the lip of the valve, and give it a couple little umphs.

Yikes!! I just use a big pair of pliers and some muscle.(mostly pliers)

I also grease the lip of it before reinstalling it.

I remove the 2 bolts, twist the valve so the bolt holes are open. Run each end of a heavy wire through holes and tie on. Then I have a loop in the wire I stick a piece of Re-bar through and use the alternator as a leverage point and pop up.

Also, can use a tool to help:

Also found that the valve comes out much easier when the engine is warm.

This pops it right out, slicker than snot. The wire was a FAIL! Actually, I can see the wire working, but it bends up the ears of the valve.

I use a length of rope/cord looped at both ends and a 2x2.

I unbolt EGR and twist it enough to get access to the ears. I then hook each end of the cord around the ears and then use the 2x2 as a lever against the top of the alt. to pop it out. Works like a charm. Similar to the bailing wire trick in the tech folder.
