I just tore apart the whole light assembly, all the lights work when they a switched variously, the middle and a side depending on witch switch is flipped. If both are switched on the middle works and the sides are off. Bulbs dim accordingly. Above the light assembly there are 2 grey clips, 1 has a power wire into it, then power is transfered to the light through a screw running through a contact plate. The other clip is a ground i think (has a black wire to it.) Next step I guess is to check the plunger switches in the door. They activate the courtesy lights, maybe there is a wire disconnected to the overhead.

Does the center light turn on if you turn the overhead on with the headlight ****? Are you sure that the center bulb isn't burned out? Mine does not turn on the center bulb when both switches are turned on, but it looks that way because of the plastic cover on there.

The center light is supposed to turn on if you twist the headlight **** all the way to the left.

Right but it sounds like he is saying that his center light turns on if he flips both the reading lights on? Maybe I misunderstood.

Yeah, if i turn it on manually by the switches on the light itself, all the bulbs work. However, i just tried turning it on by the dome-light switch/dimmer switch and it will not cut on.

You have verified the center lamp works with the lens cover off?

Yep, all bulbs will turn on if the light is cut on by the switches on the light itself. It however will not activate by turning the dome light switch all the way as Chase said it should.

That's exactly backward of the way mine works. I dunno then.

Any possibility that the wire are crossed up somehow at the light on the roof? The way that system works, I think is that the door switches and headlight **** ground the system and that is what turns the light on. if the wires were hooked up backwards that might affect the way the switches on the light affect the function of the rest of the system.

Everything looks alright in the roof. The pic at the top of the page is what the wires look like. 1 is power and 1 is ground. Since the light doesn't come on with the headlight switch... maybe something is disconnected to it?

Is it possible to try the light with the wires switched? I'm just wondering if the PO may have had it apart and hooked the wires up backwards? My though process here is leading me to believe that these wires are somehow reversed and that your center bulb is being grounded through the other two bulbs when you turn the switches on. The bulbs should not dim regardless of the switch settings.

The bulbs shouldn't dim? If just the center one is on it is bright. If just one side of the switch is on, the center bulb is on, along with that side's light, they are dim, not quite bright. Almost like adding bulbs in a circuit, more draw makes the bulbs dim.

I've not looked at mine recently with the lenses off, but they don't dim noticeably regardless of the switch positions.

Try this, take the two outside, smaller bulbs out and see if you can get the center bulb to come on with the switches, I am betting NO. I think they center bulb is going to ground through the outside bulbs and not through the ground wire and switches as it should.

If you just turn one switch on, on the side of your light, does just that side's light come on? Or both the center and the side?

Are you sure? I was messing with the light in my truck last night and on my truck the screw that doesn't thread into those wire connectors was the ground. As best I could tell the green wire is for the center light, the black wire is for the 2 side lights.
