The clay bar will lift any impurities off the paint, you would be surprized.
The orange peel effect is best left alone unless you know what you are doing. To remedy orange peel you would use an Ultra Fine sand paper then buff to a shine.
Best to hand wash, then clay bar before waxing. I use all Meguiars products and like the finish they leave.
I'll see if I can get a close up shot that will show it. You have to be at the right angle to really see it well. But yeah, it's obvious standing next to her.
I'll check out the clay bar kit - did it make the orange peel effect go away, or just not as noticeable?
A clay bar aids in the removal of bonded contaminates in the paint such as rail dust, paint over spray and environmental deposits, Sap, bird goo, bugs guts, etc A good way to tell if your paint needs clayed is to take a plastic sandwich bag and place your hand in it. Rub the paint (after its clean) and you will be able to feel the grittiness in the paint. Claying will not remove orange peel. Orange peel is just a low quality paint job found on just about every vehicle made from the factory. The only way to correct it is to wet sand and buff it out.
I'm a detailer by night, so feel free to ask any questions
Thanks Tacswa3. I knew someone here would comment. I couldn't find the earlier thread about clay bar.
No problem I will add that there are different "aggressive" levels of clay bars. Those that are found at Auto Zones, Pep Boys, etc are on the mild side. Maguiars site actually sells the different levels of clay bars, mild, medium, aggressive.
You can actually induce scratches if you don't clay correctly. Use plenty of lubricant whether its detail spray or a soapy liquid, turn/knead the clay bar frequently and if you DROP it on the ground throw it away. I like to break off pieces of the bar and use as needed so in case I drop it at least my whole bar is not ruined. There not cheap.
I can't contribute much to mechanical workings of diesel, but when it comes to paint care, thats my niche.
I saw that exact truck at a dealer down here, and well.... ummm... let's just say I chose a truck without the Limited Edition seating. Went so far as to ask for build dates first, so I'd make sure I had missed that particular window of opportunity!
But if you like it, that's all that matters....
Wow! Tough crowd here tonight.
Shane? Where are you Shane? I might need some help here.

I'm going to leave this one to the pros. I don't like to wax anyway.

If you don't like to wax, let me recommend Optimum spray wax. It doesn't get any easier than this. Great product for a spray wax. Decent durability, easy on, easy off.
Yeah, I'm thinking the same thing. I'll be doing good to keep the bird droppings and cat tracks off of her.
Hum...that brings up a use for my last upfitter switch; a small MLRS only for birds.
I deal with that at least once a week, ususally more.
If it's on the paint, I clean that area when I get home.
Well, I went and bought a bottle of Meguiar's Ultimate Quik Wax and some microfibre cloths at lunch today, guess what I'll be doing over the holiday?
And this may be a stupid question, but can I use this on the chrome as well? And what do y'all use to protect the black plastic areas, like the mirrors and such?

Your kinda on the right track, but If your going the over the counter wax route, I would use Maguires NXT Tech wax. Is that Ultimate quick wax a spray wax? If so I wouldn't waste my time with that. You have a beautiful dark blue truck that would benefit from a decent wax. For the plastic I use 303 Aerospace protectant. Very good UV protection. You can find at most Auto stores.
