I have a 2000 F250 SC SB 5.4 2v and I have a Magnaflow Hi Flow cat and a Thrush welded muffler, just those 2 alone has given me a lot better throttle response which is mainly what I'm looking for as I do a lot of city driving, I've heard a lot of good and a lot of bad about the SPD y-pipe, some say it helped their gas mileage and throttle response while others said it decreased their gas mileage and said it made their truck sound like a weed eater. I love the nice loud rumble my truck makes and DO NOT want it to sound like a weed eater. Can people who have this installed tell me a little about what you noticed after the installation, good and bad. (and flutter doesnt bother me, my exhaust is dumped right now and it's already LOUD in the cab, getting pipes ran out this week though) thanks!
I put one in my truck last year and I like it the exhaust sounds alot better it really increased the rumble and seemed to help power and response all the way thru the rpm range. As far as flutter I think that was more of a V10 issue but they use the same stupid ypipe on both. I also think the weed eater sound is only on the V10 because of their firing order. I say go for it.
I have it too, installed it about a month ago and love it. Throttle response is MUCH quicker, it sounds better, and I did notice an increase in hw mpg.
I also have the SPD y-pipe and love it. Throttle response and a little more pep on the bottom end is what I noticed. I installed headers at the same time as the y-pipe but my gut tells me most of my gain was from the y-pipe.
I didn't really notice any difference in sound but my exhaust is stock from the y-pipe back. I think you'll love it too.
Even on the less restrictive 99, the y-pipe made a big difference in flow, and it will be louder. I had a SS magnaflow y-pipe installed for $300 a local exhaust shop...stock cat is fine unless you has an issue.

Yeah, I have the less restrictive one also, mine doesn't neck down to 1.5", the early 2000's had the "rams horn" style y pipe also, I'm looking for throttle response more than anything, I do a lot of city driving, although the better exhaust note is a major perp
