1999 7.3 f250 having major problem. HELP!
started having problem about a month ago. started her up, let her warm up a good 15min, pulled out driveway and drove fine for about 15min. All the sudden i lost all power, truck was running but no power when i push the throttle, then she started to lope and surge. pulled over and waited 5min. then she was fine. drove for another 4 days.
then, samething. after about 15 of driving it did the same thing except the loping didnt stop. turned the truck off and then started the truck again. instantly started to lope.
went home and researched on the best website around...FTE!!!! came to the conclusion it was the injector wiring harness came loose. opened the valve cover and all was good. i did do the 25cent shim just since i was under the valve cover. that didnt fix the problem. then replaced the TPS and the peddle assmbly. still no fix. then tried replacing the IDM....still no fix!!!!
i do have a dfuser 10k tuner, disconnected it and still no fix. im to the end of my patience. anyone have any ideas of a fix? and help is very appreciated!!!!
that i have not. i talked to a mechanic over the phone and i asked about that. he said it would be a no start problem. mine starts fine, but then lopes and surges and if you push the throttle i have dead peddle for about 20seconds then the rpm's go up and if u dont feather the peddle back down to low rpm's it will die. do you think this is a CPS problem? however the CPS was the next thing im gonna try, what do i have to loose beside some green out of my wallet?
CPS can cause strange issues, not just a no start issue and you should always have a spare in the glove box anyhow just in case your truck starts acting up.
Start by changing your CPS. They are 25 bucks and you can get a grey one an the local dealer. Just keep in mind that the grey causes contribution failures in #3 and #8 cylinders which is fine, they work. When you can replace your CPS with a black one which you can get from Clay. They are just better CPS's but have a higher failure rate.
None the less always have a spare CPS and yes, change it out, that would be step 1.

Well bud, welcome to the forums and you've already taken step 1 in learning more about your truck. You stick around here and these guys well make you a 7.3L diesel mechanic pro in no time.
2 years ago I knew nothing about diesels other than they didn't have spark plugs and ignited under compression, now I know enough to fix my own truck and troubleshoot these sweet rigs thanks to the great minds on this forum.
Stick around, read what others post and you'll be fixing other people's trucks in no time.
The truck needs to be running with it unplugged, doesn't matter if you unplug it while it is running or before you start it. It may be best to unplug it before starting it
