Went out to go for a spin today, and being the first sunny warm day this year, I went to open the rear, side opening windows. Hit the overhead buttons and nothing... no motor sound, nothing. So I tried it a few more times with no results. Found out which fuse under the hood it was (#3) and proceded to swap it for my horn fuse... still nothing.
Later on I was heading out again and just out of habit, hit the buttons again and voila, the right side opened... tried the left side again, first closing it and then opening and it worked too... cannot explain what happened other than the humidity changedid something to the relay?? It can't be the motors as both were affected at the same time. Should also mention that I've had them opened in the last few weeks.
Has anyone had this happen before or have any idea why it would?
Its not the motor or relay. The window is just stuck to the weather stripping. You need to get something between them and free it up. Happens all the time.
On my Excursion, the driver's side will open without the ignition having to be on. But the ignition must be on for the passenger's side to open. I don't know if one of them is wired wrong, or if it was intended to be this way.
Had this happen to me last weekend, dogs in the back went to open the vent's to give them air, passenger side would not open no sound no nothing, drivers side worked fine. went around back tried to wiggle the arm on the window but no go. checked it a few days later after we got home from camping and now all is good did nothing to fix it it just fixed itself I must have a special Ex that repairs itself
I have tried treating the weather stripping to no avail. I have even used new motors. Only 2 things you can do:
1. Exercise it every chance you get and hope it doesn't freeze up.
2. When it does, rap the motor with a small hammer
That is what I have done. If I am too lazy to take out the plastic coverings, I rap the shaft so that it vibrates the motor when I do. That seems to work. When that fails, I take out the coverings and rap the motor itself.
They don't work sometimes if there isn't enough juice going to them like when your rpms are low or the battery is low. You have to put some kind of anti sticking substance between the glass and the truck. I just smeared some lithium grease in there but there are other things you can use.
