hey guys whats up just got a 460 out of a lincoln mk 4 for my bronco, mounting it in front of an np-435 out of an 84 f150 i want to make at least as much horsepower as i got in cubic inches any tips on how to do that on a budget?
I like to congradulate you for dropping your ******** and becoming a man and taking on a BBF (460).
What do you plan to use yer truck for?
For a budget build:
Double Roller timing chain
Headers
600-750DP carb
Aftermarket intake
Aftermarket distributor
Mild RV cam
For a bigger build ($$$$):
Headers
Exhaust system (2"+)
850dp carb
Aftermarket intake
Port and polished heads (D0VE or D3VE heads or Aftermarket aluminum)
Roller rockers
HV oil pump
Flat top pistons
Clevite or King bearings (main, rod, and cam)
Cam and lifter
Converter (if equipped with a auto trans)
mostly a daily driver, i just put a s**t ton of work into the body so i dunno about MAJOR trails but i might play with it a lil not only will it have the 460 an the np-435, but its getting a dana 60 front solid axle and a sterling 10.25 rear end im build it to be as tough and rugged as i can i basicaly want a truck thatll out last me (dont laugh)
right now the 460 licoln engine puts out about 220 hp or so ive read and NO big block should put out less than its size in horse power
i want to get to at least 460 hp, 400 would be the minimum i would except why do i want a big block? so that i can pass a camry without breaking a sweat, why do i want an sas and bigger axles? so i have the clearance and ability to park on it after words to declare my victory basically if im gonna have a 4wd truck im gonna build it like a 4wd should be
so gimme some tips guys i want 460 horse without having to be donald trump to get it there
OH and what are D0ve or d3ve heads where do i get em?
Those are the casting numbers on the better of the stock Ford heads. If you do not have these on the engine that you have , look in you local wreaking yard, or shop Craigslist for them.
As far as having 220HP, that's what Ford said to the Gov. for emissions.
it will at least require a rebuild if the mileage is high on that motor. plan on a compression ratio bump up to 9.5-1. upgrade the cam and get a 750cfm carb with a good aftermarket intake. Long or shortie headers and 3" exhaust.
just an fyi, being a daily driver i wouldnt run the np435. being a low geared 4speed plan on nothing better then 8mpg in town at best. Look for a zf 5speed out of a 88-97 f250/f350 running the 460. it will bolt right into the bronco and is an awesome tranny.
ive heard good things and bad things about the zf, someone once told me the syncros are junk for that tranny and they are ooober expensive to rebuild. right now the np435 is available i cannot for the life of me find a zf thatll bolt to a 460 ive been trying to just find the slave cylinder bracket so i can use the hydraulic clutch setup none and i mean none of the scrapyards i frequent have any of the newer 460 trucks
it may sound strange but the np-435 is a personal favorite i love the whining sound it makes theres also an adapter available its kinda like a tranny for your tranny it gives the np-435 a low and high gear ratio setting for highway driving ill post the link if i can find it again i dont do that much driving seeing as i work at home mileage is important but not so much. id be worried if i got 3 or 4, shes also gonna go on a diet and im gonna tweak it a little bit to sqeeeeeeze every last mpg out of her, you know the old tricks, headers, remove the old clutch style fan etc. if im lucky enough to get 10 or 12 well ill be a happy camper plus i wont be hammering it all the time only when im in the mode.
