I had a problem similar to yours. It turned out being the idle mixture screw on one side. It was just worn out and letting air in I guess, screwing up the mixture. At idle I could pull off half of the plug wires and the engine would run exactly the same. Ordered new screws for like 2 bucks and problem solved.

My screws are good, checked em first. I think the thing's just generally worn out. I couldn't believe how much better it ran with the new one..... I knew the old one was having some issues, but I didn't know it was responsible for the sloppiness of my entire engine.
