I have a C4 behind a 302 in my 53 F100. It does not want to shift out of first gear. Seems to work properly in first with no slippage. I have only driven it a mile or so due to no upshift. I am curious if low fluid level could possibly cause the lack of shift. Completely custom application. The trans is from a 71 half ton van and has the pan mounted dipstick. I noticed dipstick was broken when I purchased transmission. Unable to be sure I have the proper fluid level.
It was rebuilt by a very good local tranny shop. Having them check it out is obviously my next logical step but that is going to require a trailer so I thought I would ask here first. A few other details. I currently have 10 1/2 quarts of fluid in it. Vacuum modulator is plumbed directly to manifold vacuum. Using a late 70s F100 radiator with transcooler.
I can't find it now but I once located a chart that listed 10 1/2 quarts as the capacity for the 71 E100 with C4.
