Here is my question how do I minimize ,or reduce the body roll on my suv?
I have a 2011 Mercury Mariner same platform as the Escape it has a 6 init with a 2wd auto.On a turn it feels sloppy what should be considered to change ? Springs shocks or both? Your thoughts?? Need Help on this.
Our 2010 Escape corners pretty flat, for an SUV. I'm impressed, but it's not a sports car. If indeed you are not expecting too much of it, I would try these:
Check both front and rear stabilizer ("anti-sway") bars that the end links are connected, and that the mounts to the body that hold the bars on are not loose, in case somebody didn't tighten them properly at the factory. Haven't heard of anything like that, but there is always a first time.
Verify proper tire pressure on all four tires. Don't depend on TPMS for this, measure them.
I'd try a bounce test at each corner, to see if a front McPherson strut's "shock" had a failure, or if a rear shock absorber failed. I would also look for excessive oil staining at all four of these, in case seal in the shock failed.
If that is all proper, then next I would stop by a Ford dealer's parts department mid-morning or mid-afternoon when they aren't so busy, and have them look up and compare part numbers for front and rear springs, front and rear stabilizer bars of Mariner vs. Ford Escape. Compare apples to apples, V6 2WD to V6 2WD and see if there is a part # difference between Mercury and Ford. To see if the Mercury version is setup softer.
Thank you for your thoughts, there are no signs of a leak, and the bars are tight.
I quess I am looking for a stiffer more into the feeling of the road type of handling.
Like that of a euro feel on the road.I quess it is best to call spring manufacturers and get educated on the pros and cons of lowering the ground clearance.
You might also check on the part numbers for the Mazda Tribute or at least test drive one and see if you feel a difference. I have a 2wd Tribute and a 4wd Escape and the Tribute will drive circles around the Escape - but - the Tribute is an 02 and the Escape is an 09 so there are quite a few years difference between the two vehicles. Still, the Tribute has 183,000 miles on the original suspension and handles much flatter than my Escape.
