Hey I'm wondering about a truck I've found on the Chattanooga , Tn craigslist . Posting # 2367837200 . Its a 2000 reg cab 4x4 f350 dually powerstroke automatic with only 88 , 000 miles for $11,500.00 which is about $4500.00 less than blue book and on top of that he says he's got a $5000.00 world class transmission just put in , and brand new tires . I talked to the guy and he is a camper/rv dealer and uses the truck to deliver campers . The miles sounds low to the point that I'm wondering if there is a way for me to know for sure : can you hook-up a computer , are there any tell tale signs . I've heard that uneven numbers are and are not tell tale signs . Thanks in advance for any help .
I've seen 4 pictures of it including 1 of the odometer , where the numbers are kinda out of line . I've talked to the guy he says he's a camper dealer and used it to deliver/pick up campers . No I have not seen the truck in person .

Reason: Answer question
If it was a Nigerian scam, the truck would be $3K, not $11K. You can spot those pretty quickly. For a truck to go through a transmission in 88K, I would be suspicious. I don't think you can get mileage anywhere other than the cluster. I swapped clusters once trying to fix a problem, and the new cluster showed 76K, when my truck had 200K+. I fixed the problem which was not tied to the cluster, so I used my original. Get a receipt for the transmission. If the dealer cannot supply a reciept, you have to deal as if it has no modifications.
Looking at the pics on CL, there's nothing alarming about the odometer. Best way to know if the miles are actual is to run a carfax on it, many states now report mileage when they're checked for emissions every year, as well as any time it was bought or sold the mileage will show up on carfax.
I talked to my local dealer they said the truck could be plugged in and actual miles could be read - I called the Chatt Tn ford dealer to tell them what I wanted to do later this week , said they have never heard of that . I think I'm gonna let this one go ... If anybodys looking for a truck like this you know where too find it
The market is down, and the pics show a std cab dually. Too old to finance through most banks or finance companys, so basically you are dealing cash. I would probably drive over for a look and drive in person. A carfax would show several things. How many owners , every registration renewal, mileage at any dealer visit, mileage at any emissions check, mileage at any title swap, and usually major wrecks involving an insurance company. Not a scam since its local and they list their phone number for contacting.
Just last week on my local craigslist there was a 2000 F450 dump truck with 17,000 actual miles with the 7.3 stick and they asked $17,000 and it was gone in 1 day.
