Canister located on passenger side just below the battery on my '94 Bronco has developed three large corrosive holes on the top. What could have caused this problem and how critical is it to replace? Bronco runs fine. What is the name of this part and is it necessary to replace? Thanks
it's called a carbon canister it hold fuel vapors for the tank one end is connected to the air cleaner which then draws the vapors down the carb to be burnt in the engine all it is is an emission thing so it all depends on how sticky the laws are in your area. besides that it wont harm the engine, you can pick one up at the wreckers for next to nothing.they might even give it to you.
Is this canister a maintenance item, or should it simply last indefinitely. The corrosive holes in the top of the hard plastic have me puzzled. I could understand if it were metal, perhaps you would have corrosion from the inside, but on hard plastic ????
in the chiltons it says to inspect the canister for cracks or damage periodically every 24,000 miles but how you got holes in yours is beyoned me, are they melted or maybe a stick or somthing went throught it when you where out wheeling, the holes could be from the vapors? if yor worried slap a new one on from the wreckers like I said it will be cheap. keep on wheelin
Appreciate the information ba 302. I have over 108,000 miles on the odometer, so I am going to check out a couple of bone yards this week. Keep on truckin.
Sulfuric acid affects almost anything. How do the battery tray & the body mount in the core support look?
