Hi all,,my '88 Bronco II 2.9 5spd with approx. 178K miles,,has a small leak in right side manifold. Will this leak affect the O2 sensor reading and 'tell' computor engine is too lean(by sucking in fresh air) and adjust accordingly? Leak is right at the middle exhaust port gasket,, I can see plug fire through it when dark and hear a small popping. When its warmed up good and I floor it on the road, the CEL comes on and there's a small hesitation. Everything else is up to snuff, new battery, new computor, relays, all sensors new or cleaned, plugs, wires, dist cap, coil etc. Also,, as far as I can tell, it has the original exhaust, 2 cats, muffler, tailpipe. Maybe its tome for new exhaust anyway,, small leak back of muffler. Thanks for any input,,Larry in Arlington,Tx.
Also, maybe you can help me again, oldjunk;
This happened before and it just happened again; My truck backfired (probably the loudest backfire I have ever heard) as if it has been gaining a lot of pressure in there and just shoots like a gun, then my truck dies. The first time this happened there was black smoke from the muffler and it wasn't a usual back fire; I have heard it backfire many times and these few sound very different, they are like sharper noises. Will the duraspark take care of this problem or do I have a bigger problem to deal with?
Btw leveling the workbench is a bigger job than a Chilton's can take care of. I have tried...
Backfire/black smoke is produced by rich fuel mixture conditions.............sure signs of a dying 2150 electronic feedback carb. You may have to live with it for a while.
You should start looking for a non feedback 2100 or 2150 2bbl motorcraft carb off another rig with a 2.8 or even a 302. Good places to look in the wrecking yards or craigslist would be any carb off a mid 70s to 80-81 Mustang, Pinto, Bobcat, with the 2.8 v6. Even a Mustang or other Ford with a 302 and 2150 2bbl will do, do not get one off anything larger than a 302 (venturis are too large) Avoid the odd looking, variable venturi carb it is no good.
This would be the first thing to start looking for on your Duraspark swap.
I just put a brand new Holly into it. Cost me around $400. Is there a way I can check what kinda Holly it is; or does it matter?
A 2bbl Holley that looks just like the 4bbl Holley but is missing the rear 2?.........You know the carbs CFMs ?......If it is over 350 CFM, it is WAY too big for your 2.8, and is dumping WAY too much fuel causing your backfire/black smoke ..........On the plus side, you may already have your carb for Duraspark, if it is a 350CFM holley.
Ok, its really a motorcraft carb........and the right one! great!
Your float level may be adjusted wrong, or you did not adjust the idle mixture when you installed it.
I had a mechanic (really a retard) install it. He probably didn't, he had my wires backwards and everything! It says it's 2 brl, I thought it had to be a 4? How do I check the CFM? How do I adjust idle mixture?
I have been trying but every local mech wants 75 per hour to have a look at it, that's such bs, lol. They wanted $400 just to put my wife's rack and pinion in, I can't afford it, atm. But I think I may buy the parts and do it myself.
Nope, its the right carb, dont worry about the CFM......You might want to get another mech. to look at it.
Scratch that, is this the carb meant to replace your original and work with the stock emissions controls and Ign?..........If so, it will NOT work for Duraspark.
