Finally got around to mounting back my manual steering box, I would have to say im about 1/2'' to 3/8'' away from the header ..... The top corner of the steering box has got me worried.......
What gets me is that I triple checked my double check on where my engine was gonna mount, I was a happy 1" away.... bolted the engine in now all of a sudden my steering box is close........ "Am I asking for trouble?"

Don’t know, (rack and pinion) could you space the motor mounts up half an inch ?
I had to use a 1/2 flatbar on top of my motor mount to give me more space so the pan won't hit the mustang rack. It wasn't hitting but felt better about it.
I have the same issue with the 302 and stock manifolds. The exhaust flang that holds the exhaust to the manifold is about a 1/2in. away on mine. I have the same concerns only thing is I have no money and I'm hopeing when I get headers that I can not deal with this issue. I doubt it though.
I figured i post some pics, (1000 words right)
Well im trying to convince myself is that will not hit, Im figuring the motor will have some movement but in a rotating manner.... up and down and not so much side to side.....
What do you guys think? I was hoping to save money and use the headers that came the donor......
Very true about the heat....but I filled the gearbox with grease......should that suffice with heat radiating from the header? Will the heat break down the grease and "liquify" and cause damage?
Why did you have to scare me merc??? should weekend driving be compared to racing the indy? Will the temp of the header get that hot to sieze my steering box? Lol thanks merc
