The handle is held on the door by two studs/nuts on the handle. The nuts can be accessed through 2 holes on the interior side of door, remove trim panel on door and make sure widow glass is all the way up. Use socket & extension to get to nuts The door locking rod is connected to the handle with a clip. You will need to push and rotate the handle to release the clip, may take a few tries to release the clip.

Hope this helps

To remove the slide lock control from the door panel, (1980-1981) you will need to use a flat standard screwdriver. On the bottom of the slide lock there is a small slot. Put the screwdriver in the slot, and gently pry the bottom of the slide lock out by the metal clip. DO NOT pry on the plastic piece or it will break, only pry on the metal piece accessible by the slot. Once the slide lock is out of the panel it can be removed from the lock rod. Do not try to remove the panel without first removing the slide lock, as this will bend the rod, and make the slide lock very hard to use and break.
