mine is the same but with the 7.3 and i also have e40d, and 3.55s

his should destroy my idi in a drag race but what happens when they get hooked to loads?

I bet if you hooked up back to back you could drag him down the street

i like my diesel! If it doesn't start it is And i alwasys have air!
A gas
1-no-fuel
2-no air
3-ignition system
4-emissions issues
And with the 460 its most likely No-1
Edit: John if you look close the 460 is shifting manually and running it higher in each gear, so that may be part of the spread

You'll burn less fuel, and by a lot better margin than the difference in cost between gas and diesel.

So you win!

I didn't bother shifting it, cause I had the pedal in the floor and the engine would rev to the Governor before shifting anyways on it's own.

He got to 75 before I can make it to 60

My 0-60 time is 39 seconds, his is 15 seconds!!!!

The way i see it. I can daily drive an idi with 3.55 gears, i can't say i could do that with a 460 at 10mpg. My idi gets around 20mpg with the e4od and those gears.

Uhhhhh, Chevy 454's are absolute TURDS when it comes to pulling anything other than its own weight.

I've owned both, 1990 extended cabs. First was the 250 7.3 E4oD SRW 3:5x gears. Almost 20 mpg, usual high teens. Hang to a load like it was built to. Not fast getting to speed but once there stayed there with ease.
Second was a 1990 350 DRW, 460 E4OD 4:10 gears. 10 mpg. Quick off the line, actually spun all four rear wheels on dry pavement one time in an emergency. Hung to the load pretty darn good if I kept it spun up. Both are good.

I've never been impressed by a stock 460 or 454 for that matter. Give me a 440 everytime.
I have a stock '78 454, stock '97 460 and stock '74 440 and the 440 beats 'em all. The 460 gets the best mileage since it's fuel injected.
I just "hopped-up" the 454 a little but mostly did a solid balanced and blue-printed rebuild. It's A LOT better now!
I did basically the same with the 440 years ago, and admittedly a little more than the 454 but it SCREAMS!

I'd still rather have a turbo diesel. They run cooler, better MPG more reliable, last longer etc. etc. etc.

Ya its hard for the idi to beat the 460, and keep in mind its not apples to apples, the 460 has a 40ci advantage over the 6.9. It was fords big hoss thru 97. I know with mods the psd's can out perform them but ford didn't want an IH motor outperforming theirs. So in everything but fuel economy the 460 takes it

Idk bout that, I was stock IDI when my buddy and his 460 lost to me in pulling capabilities, he couldnt handle Garrett Street in Missoula, Garrett is a 2-4 mile long road with a 2 mile hill at least....I took it in 4th @ 45 with a 3 horse goosneck trailer, he took it @ 3rd @ 45 with a 16 ft car trailer with a car on the back....granted off the line he is faster, but my IDI outperformed his 460. And yes the 460 is a bigger motor, .6l is a big difference when it comes to power.

I think it would be a close race between my '97 460, '95 or '96 PS, '94 IDI Turbo.

The 460 would have ate the '97 PS F-250 I used to have. That truck ran great but it wasn't "fast" by any means. It was just one of those unlucky few motors that just didn't perform as well.
My 460 might be the same deal but every fuel injected, stock 460 I've driven or ridden in was not very impressive. They got the job done but without much fanfare.

It performs better in cars because they weigh 1/2 of what trucks weigh.
