5.4 strange plug break
I have a 2006 5.4.
All are out except for #5 (easiest access thank god).
The threads, jam nut and ring came out and all of the ceramic and electrode is intact and still in there. I have the Lisle 65600 on hand but won't help until I get the top 3/4s of it out. I can't find anyone who has documented this issue online.
I was thinking about trying to find a bolt extractor that is small enough to grab the metal tip on top of the plug. I have a kit but they're all too big. I wouldn't expect that to get it out but maybe it would get me closer too using the Lisle 65600.
Or/and stick a screwdriver in the hole and break off the ceramic. I'm afraid if I do that, it'll break off at the top of the threads.
Any suggestions are welcome.
Thanks,
Jay

I dont know where to send you otherwise. Maybe if you could find a long coarse threaded bolt in a size that can grab that plug, maybe some thread stock, and a couple of nuts with large diameter washers. Once you get the ceramic knocked apart use the thread stock to grab the plug casing and then tighten the nuts down to pull. sometimes it takes 3 or 4 tries or more to get a good bite.
I got it. I had pulled on it with needle nose before with no luck. It sat for a day and then I heated it with a heat gun and pulled again, snap. It broke perfectly to use the Lisle tool. Piece of cake with that tool.
Btw, I broke one, 3 came out easy and other four, which were hard to turn, I heated them up with a heat gun, using a 3/4" 90 deg conduit to direct the heat without burning wires and they came out without to much problem.
Just another of many tricks.
Thanks,
Jay
